In December 2009, Scenic Hudson protected 190 riverfront acres directly across from FDR's Home and Presidential Library

Roosevelt National Historic Site, this acquisition halts proposed residential development of these forested acres directly across the river from FDR’s home and Presidential Library, linchpins of the valley’s $4.7-billion tourism economy. The property also features prominently in views from nearby Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site, another popular tourist destination in Hyde Park. Prohibited from acquiring the land, the National Park Service encouraged Scenic Hudson to complete this transaction. Located within the Esopus-Lloyd Scenic Area of Statewide Significance -- designated by the New York Department of State for possessing outstanding scenic and historic resources -- the property also features a variety of non-tidal wetlands, including numerous vernal pools, which play a critical role in sustaining the region’s biological diversity. The purchase is part of Scenic Hudson’s collaborative campaign to Save the Land That Matters Most, protecting 65,000 acres of great scenic, ecological and agricultural significance.
